You probably heard the same story over and over from years ago in many sectors of technology. So I write not to weep or to gloat. But simply to highlight one key point.
In Jamaica the locals are below average human intelligence in respect to spotting higher intelligence as far as I see it. It is the local culture which makes 99.9% of them so. They are all primitive.
It could be a genetic flaw, or the slave gene syndrome, who knows.
Or it could be culture as one Doctor who does research in ganja told me when I asked why the locals are so ignorant and savage.
He said in all parts of the world it is like that. It is just that in Jamaica, because the resources are more meager than the states, that it appears that way to me. Thus what I take for granted others view it as all or nothing. Not sure what he was saying, but whatever.
Now what I did just to seal it in time and history a few years after the concept, but prior to FB new designs and also prior to What’s app new designs.
Was to mail to myself my new (now old) design of what is still technically a superior UI than FB today and makes whatsapp look like crap. Though their new features comes close but not close enough. Can you imagine all this 7+ years ago?
I could not get any of the local primates to invest nor take me serious. To make matters worse, majority of the marketing managers of Jamaica’s version to fortune 500 companies were old (anything over 30 at the time I met them) haggard women who all wanted to feel what it felt like to wear pants and be a man with power or worse thought they were still 21. Such types were the worst encounters of the highest order.
Then I ran into old haggard men who still think they were in their 20s, 30s, or even early 40s and all thought they were god’s gift to Jamaica. Friggin pricks if you ask me with no talent. They even tried to act like Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg. All pretense if you ask me.
So I still have the certified mail letter with the design I tried to patent at JIPO and was turned down. Only later to see FB with something looking like it in the states of what I saw the future of this tech space to be. That being social and mobile.
Now to me it is all ancient stuff and quite boring. With exception of the billions being made of course.
Come to think of it. I am beginning to wonder, can there be any new trends that can emerge? It is scary not to even feel it or see it. I see no more correlations, no more merging of industries, nor more merging of trends. Or am I now 17 years past my creative prime.
I guess I could be on the outside too long now. Even all this new hype about mobile apps is nothing new in respect to the acquisition.
So lets assume I did get the funding. If I was not in the valley, it would not have helped anyways.
To add all that. In 2004-2005 or earlier I contacted by e-mail a Chinese mobile phone manufacture to design a wi-fi only phone with apps. Of course I had no idea then that the iPhone or iPad was out or to be launched. The goal was under USD60 for a touch screen device, though not the touch screen features such as zoom and shrink as we now know it.
So what’s next? Get the hell out of a 5th world country such as Jamaica, and head back to Cali my adopted home land.
Besides the easy access to fun here, it is rather a boring existence. No wonder the economy here cannot grow beyond 1% on average per year for the past 40 years.
Now the naysayers will say, look at mary, jonh, tom , dick and harry who are brilliant and beat all odds. blah blah blah. That’s not the point, but that is the reasoning and line of questions one can expect from these primates.
